Additional reasons for asking for re-

consideration of the Imperial Contribution are:-

(1) The original suggestion for the construction

of an aerodrome came from the Air Ministry. (2) According to the lay-out now recommended.

the greater part of the aerodrome will

be for the use of the Air Ministry, the

area reserved for the R.A.F. being 28

acres at the better end with room beyond

for further building extension, while

the area reserved for commercial aviation

is only 12 acres. It is also proposed

that the R.A.F. should take over the a

slip-way, the construction of which has

already been undertaken for purposes of

commercial aviation.

(3) The increase in the estimated cost of the

Aerodrome which is now, exclusive of the cost of dredging, $2,529,250.00 as

compared with the previous estimate of $2,378,000.00.

This is exclusive of the

additional expenditure necessitated by

Mr. Dawson's recommendation which amounts

to $230,000.00

I think we have a sufficient case to go

to the Air Ministry and suggest that we write to

them on the lines of the above, enclosing a copy

of the despatch and enclosures and asking for their

consideration of the question of an increased

Imperial contribution, and asking also what proposals they have to make for meeting the

expenditure
